DermaSensor Named Consumer Solution Winner at the Health 2.0 Traction Pitch Competition
Santa Clara, Calif. – Oct 4, 2017 – DermaSensor announced today that it was named winner of Health 2.0’s startup pitch competition in the consumer solution category. The Traction competition drew applications from over 80 pre-Series A digital health companies. Eight companies were ultimately selected to present their business plan this past Sunday to a panel of judges from leading digital health companies and venture funds. DermaSensor’s™ potential to decrease the cost of care for patients with skin cancer while improving care quality and the patient experience distinguished the company in the pitch competition.
DermaSensor is developing a low-cost, easy-to-use connected device that utilizes spectroscopy and machine learning to enable healthcare providers and consumers to check for skin cancer, with the mission of ultimately improving outcomes for patients with skin cancer. Detecting melanoma early can drastically improve health outcomes; the survival rate at state IV detection is 15%, compared to 97% when melanoma is diagnosed at stage I. With 20% of Americans diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime, providers are looking for innovative tools like DermaSensor’s™ solution to aid in skin lesion diagnosis.
Cody Simmons, CEO of DermaSensor, said after the award, “It is an honor to be recognized by Health 2.0 for being the most Series A ready company and for our potential to improve outcomes for skin cancer patients around the world. Our team is committed to working tirelessly to bring our skin cancer tool to market.”
With this recent confirmation of the device’s potential for skin health, DermaSensor hopes to continue growing its team, product, and commercial efforts.
